Madonna adopts an African child

Madonna and Guy Ritchie are the proud parents of a newly adopted motherless 1-year-old boy named David from Malawi in Africa. The boy’s father, Yohame Banda is pleased that the celebrity couple is adopting his son.

Although Madonna has made no comment since her arrival in Malawi about the adoption, she has made several public appearances in support of projects she supports here to care for AIDS orphans.

Penston Kilimbe, who is the director of child welfare services in the Ministry of Gender, Child Welfare and Community Services, had said that Madonna and Guy ”Have followed the normal processes.” He said that the adoption proceedings had been going on for some time now.

“They are a lovely couple” Banda the father said about Madonna and Guy, he met them at the court as part of the formalities. Madonna promised that as the child grows she will bring him back for a visit, Banda is very happy for his son David.

Madonna and Ritchie have a son, Rocco, 5, and the singer also has a daughter, Lourdes, 9.
Madonna arrived in the impoverished African nation Oct. 4 on a mission to helps AIDS orphans and amid rumors that she was to adopt a child.
The boy’s father said that he is very happy that his son has been adopted, as there is much poverty in the village and his son will be very well taken care of in America.
He said his wife Marita died a month after the baby's birth from childbirth complications and the child had been cared for at the Home of Hope Orphan Care Center in Mchinji, a village near the Zambian border.
